You know what, I’m thinking Coke is trying to increase his sales by sending his vintage ads across the world by email. Its pretty surprising because only a couple of months ago, I put up eight of Coke’s vintage print ads and I am getting another batch of twelve through email. Hiya People,
Woke up a bit early today, so I thought I’d put up my b’day snaps. I know its kinda too late but better late than never.
Here are the three monkeys, only with their eyes, ears and mouths open. Anyway, good buddies Pankaj on the left and Shanmughanandam on the right with the b’day hippo in the centre.

Thats me cake… wrong spelling of my name but still was really yummm to eat… A very big thanks to Ganesh for that, shy guy… i am a bit ashamed to confess that I dont have a single snap of him from that day. Especially when he was the one who brought the cake into the class. I ll make it up to you my man.

Shiju on the left, Pankaj giving me cake (now you know why there was cake on my cheeks in the first pic. He was giving my cake and he was looking at the camera.) and there’s Shanmughanandam. We always make him cut the cake since he has a background of cooking and hospitality. Man, does he know how to cut a cake in less than one minute… That too with a blunt cake knife.

Most brands have some really catchy catch lines or catch phrases. Some advertisers make ads revolving the catch phrases. For some ads, there might never be a connection, even if there is, then it is in a very remote sense. Some brands have catch phrases that are very celebrated and faddish thus making hte brand very powerful. And these catch phrases which have made the brands the most powerful on earth are also subject to a lot of ridicule and spoofing. Here’s what I mean…

Today me and my friend who studying in ad club went to AVM studio to see one of the prominent ad film maker Kammath because he is planning to do his intern in ad film making.
My friend is very craze about ad film making, i saw a deep fire in him, i hope within 3 to 5 years he will be one of the big fish in ad film making.
I also accompanied with him and got a chance to see the making of an ad film.
It is for the jewelery brand called Emanuel Jewellery from kerala. It is directed by Rajeev and Camera man is Kammath.
And the model is a Lakshmi Rai , she is pretty and very lively and energetic. I couldnt see any sort of bad behaviour i have heard about film stars.
Nearly 20 to 30 can see in that floor who busy with their work and also can see nearly 10 to 15 guys like us who come to see the shoot.

Hey there guys and girls,
I’d like to be honest with everyone and the fact remains that this blog has very little readership and I doubt whether even my classmates have read the first post of this blog, kinda long and monotonous. In any case, my name is Karthik Hariharan and I am a student of the Post Graduate Diploma Course in Advertising Management course at Ad Club Madras. I am in the last two weeks of my class. It ends on March 13th.
I am clearly not sure whether I should happy or sad that the course is nearing its end. On one hand, I get to concentrate on my job and give it my full attention. On the other hand, I enjoy sitting at class and learning the finer points of advertising. To tell the truth, I do learn a lot at work and it is more practical. But the lecturers at Ad Club Madras also teach only from experiences and so surviving at work was pretty easy.
I must say, the one thing that they didn’t teach at class was how to manage time and how to prioritize my work. And I am still working on that. I work in an agency called Sreshta Communications and its not a very large agency and its not a small agency either. We have a very good clientele and I’ve learnt a lot working here.
Working in a medium sized agency has its advantages, everyone at work at pretty cool. Made faster friends faster than I could write the word on paper. More importantly, I was taken to client meetings and I was given work on the very first day. That’s very good considering the fact that I had no prior experience when I started working. But I will mouth off about this later.
The reason I started writing this post is that I’ve received a couple of mails from guys and girls who are interested in joining this course. Or rather, I’ve received one mail and one comment asking for help to join this course. Global Warming – This is bull shit. You can’t feel warm once the polar ice caps have melted and you are dead cold under the ocean that has risen up and swallowed all land, can you? Besides, think of the positive stuff like how you don’t have to remember the names of all the oceans and continents. There’s just one big ocean.

This is a pretty old ad. But then again, all you people who ride your bikes without your helmets, start wearing them. You can also make them a style statement. I ll even put up some snazzy helmets you can get.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Hiya ppl,
I was listening to the radio on St Valentine’s Day and guess what I heard? One of the those stereotyped statements about how Valentine’s day was not about love between two people but it was about love between family members and friends and stuff like that.
Now what I am wondering is, if Valentine’s day is about love between family members and friends, then what the hell is Father’s day, Mother’s day and Friendship day all about. They all have their days don’t they? So why involve them during Valentine’s Day?
I am not trying to be a cynical young blooded punk by being pro-Valentine’s day guy and all but every one has their special day so let the boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands and wives have one too.

Time Friday, 30th January 2009
Location: “Sandesh” Hotel Savera,Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai,Mylapore, Chennai.
Event: Tea Party
Guest Speaker: Satish Kumar,
Managing Director, Henkel India Ltd.
Topic: Lessons from the Recession.
Outcome: A fantastic evening filled with facts, knowledge and information, meeting new people, previous lecturers and most importantly, students from the previous batches.
Now as a student from Ad Club Madras, I gotta tell you folks, when the Ad Club is throwing a tea party, they really know how to do it. The food is fantastic, it isn’t too heavy, it isn’t too light, it’s just right. There was Paav Bhaji and samosa, both were really good. Then we could choose between coffee and ice cream, and again, really good.
At about 06:55 pm, our President, Mr. Seshadri invited our guest, Mr. Satish Kumar and the former President, Mr. Jagannath Ramaswamy onto the dais. Then he gave a small prep talk as to what was going to happen through the evening. He introduced our guest and his accomplishments to us (which unfortunately was incomplete although Mr. Satish completed it for the listeners’ benefit).
Mr. Jagannath Ramaswamy, then requested Mr. Satish Kumar to give certificates and medals to the students of the previous batch. Mr. Venkat received the “Best Student of the Year” award and MR. Gyanamurthy, Ms. Vanitha and Mr. Arun won gold medals for their performance for the year 2007-2008. Mr. Venkat currently works at HDFC Bank and comes to Ad Club once in a while to give lectures on marketing. His classes are usually very informative and enjoyable.
Then Mr. Satish Kumar came up to the podium and told us how he was told it was only to be tea party and not a mini lecture. He, however, did talk on how the world was beset with the problem at hand and what could be done to cope with it. He also spoke at length on how it began or some of its root causes.
He also brought out how the industries could bring out the best during the recession. He conversed on the consequences of the depression, although he did apologize for projecting such a grim picture. He also enlightened us with his thoughts on how long the slow down would last.
When he completed his talk, a few questions were thrown at him which he answered with some thought. Afterwards, Mr. Seshadri gifted a memento to Mr. Satish Kumar and thanked him for enlightening the crowd. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening both informative and engaging, a combination which can be rarely had at a tea party.
